Flag

Blue with a circle of twelve golden stars (Symbol of perfection and unity). Stars do not correspond to the number of Member States). It was first used by the Council of Europe, and adopted by the EU only in 1985.

Anthem

Ninth symphony ('Ode to Joy') of Ludwig Van Beethoven (1823), adopted by the EU in 1985. It is complementary to National anthems.

Motto

'United in diversity'. Used since 2000 but not yet official in the treaties.
